Preparing for Your Newborn Session

Welcoming your baby into the studio is designed to feel calm, unhurried, and fully guided from the moment you arrive. This guide will help you prepare for the smoothest possible session experience while ensuring your baby remains comfortable and settled throughout.

Baby Lying Down

Keep Baby Awake

If possible, try to keep your baby awake for 1–2 hours before arriving. A bath, gentle interaction, or keeping baby unwrapped can help encourage a deeper sleep once the session begins.

Please don’t stress if this doesn’t go perfectly — every baby is different, and sessions are always guided around your baby’s needs.

Feeding Before Arrival

A full feeding immediately before leaving for the studio is highly recommended.

A sleepy, well-fed baby typically settles more easily into posing and transitions throughout the session.

If needed, additional feeding breaks will always be built into the session.

Dress Baby Simply

Please dress baby in:

  • A loose zip-up sleeper

  • Something easy to remove without pulling over the head

  • Avoid tight socks, waistbands or diapers if possible

This helps minimize marks on baby’s skin before the session begins.

What to Bring

  • Extra bottles or feeding supplies (if bottle feeding)

  • Pacifier (even if baby does not regularly use one)

  • Extra diapers and wipes

  • Any sentimental items you may want incorporated

All wraps, layering pieces, and studio styling are provided.

What to Wear

Soft neutral tones photograph beautifully and keep the focus on connection and emotion.

Recommended tones:

  • Cream

  • Beige

  • Soft white

  • Taupe

  • Warm gray

Avoid:

  • Bright colors

  • Busy patterns

  • Large logos or graphics

Safety & Comfort

Your baby’s comfort and safety will always determine the pace of the session.

Sessions are fully baby-led, with time built in for:

  • Feeding

  • Soothing

  • Diaper changes

  • Cuddles and breaks as needed

Posing is always gentle and supported, and no pose is ever forced.

The studio is kept warm and calm to help babies remain comfortable throughout the session.

During the Session

Newborn sessions typically last between 1.5–3 hours depending on feeding, settling, and baby’s comfort.

Parents are encouraged to relax during the session while I guide each setup and transition.

A calm environment helps create the soft, peaceful imagery reflected throughout my work.

After Your Session

Following your session, your images will be professionally edited and prepared for your private viewing and design appointment.

During this appointment, I will personally guide you through your gallery and help you select artwork and heirloom pieces for your home.

Final Note

The most important thing you can bring to your session is patience and flexibility.

Newborn photography is intentionally slow-paced and guided around your baby’s needs. Some babies sleep deeply, some prefer extra cuddles, and all of that is completely normal.

Beautiful images come from creating a calm and comfortable experience first.
